As a little girl, I can remember thinking that some knight in shining armor would come into my life, sweep me up, marry me and we would live happily ever after. All I could think of was, how loving, handsome, funny, honest, and kind he would be.

I had thoughts of us sitting on the beach, looking out into the horizon and letting our love grow as strong and vast as the ocean. Being with him would make me feel safe and complete.

Some of my wedding experiences were quite unusual and I would like to share a few of my unique theme wedding ideas with you. For starters, my husband was a starving college student when he began talking about getting married. I worked in the MGM building on 55th Street and 6th Avenue in New York City, which was just a few short blocks from the diamond district on 47th Street.

I would pass by the diamond stores every day on my way to and from the subway. Wow, was I dazzled. There were so many engagement rings to choose from, but his bank account was quite small. Finally, we found a diamond he could afford, and as they say, "The rest is history."

Now that I had my sparkling jewel on my finger, my head was spinning as I began making lists of my wedding ideas.

I felt a bit overwhelmed. I wanted a unique wedding but did I want a unique reception, a theme wedding, or a garden wedding? Did I want my ceremony to take place in a reception hall or did I want a separate religious ceremony?

Would I decorate the reception hall myself, what wedding flower ideas would I use? Would I use a photographer or have friends take pictures? Should I hire a professional band, D.J. or have a friend bring in a boom box for music?

I had so many wedding cake ideas. Would I have someone make my wedding cake or would I have a baker create a sensational cake? What kind of dress would I wear?

What kind of wedding invitations would I send? Would I hire a limousine or have a friend drive us?

I knew that my centerpieces would be the focal point of my table decorations and wanted to awe my guests but didn't know if I wanted fresh flowers or decorated candelabras for my centerpieces.

What time of year would we choose for our wedding day? Remember, my husband was a student, so if we wanted a honeymoon we would have to get married during the summer or term break.
